The most technically innovative medals ever.
Together with Bernd Kußmaul GmbH, we are delighted to have received the most votes at this year’s SpotOn Award. The medal project was nominated for the World Gymnastics Championships 2019 in Stuttgart. peptech GmbH, manufacturer of stretchable printed sensor technology, developed the lighting concept for the world’s first illuminated medal.
It was especially challenging to accommodate the complete electronics and lighting inside the medal. In a very small space: a highly complex motion sensor technology was built by peptech into the 385 gram medals which activates the unique lighting effect when the medal is worn around the neck, and it also activates the textile ribbon light by means of a specially modified optical fiber bundles. It was a brilliant performance not only for the winners of the World Gymnastics Championships! The partners Kussmaul GmbH and peptech, were also involved in the project: Staatliche Münzen Baden-Württemberg, Wirtschaftsförderung Region Stuttgart, Bauer Bandweberei, Maier in Emotion and Schübel Primeparts.
